Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will complement the research team Socio-Cognitive Translation Studies (socotrans) of the Centre for Translation Studies and take over tasks in the area of research, teaching and administration.

Our research focuses on the social and cognitive aspects of translation, especially the interaction between translators, other relevant actors and technology. We use innovative methods to investigate processes, actors, networks and ressources and to gain insights into the current challenges and solutions of translation practice. We specialize in qualitative workplace and network research in analogue and digital environments.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scholarly studies in the area of socio-cognitive translation studies.
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
  • You support the head of the research team in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma in the field of translation and/or interpreting studies.
  • Interest and experience in theories, models and methods in the area of socio-cognitive translation studies.
  • Experience in academic writing, publishing and presentation.
  • Experience in using qualitative research methods, esp. interviews and field observations.
  • Didactic competences and experience with e-learning.
  • IT user skills (e.g., MS Office, Citavi, MAXQDA).
  • Knowledge of translation expertise research will be an asset.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and German and any further language.
  • You should be a team player with high social and communicative skills.
  • You should have excellent organizing skills and set high standards on your academic output.
  • You should demonstrate special awareness of research ethics.
